Fun facts:
- To make one pound of honey, the bees in the colony must visit 2 million flowers, fly over 55,000 miles and will be the lifetime work of approximately 768 bees.
- A single honeybee will only produce approximately 1/12 teaspoon of honey in her lifetime.😲
- A single honey bee will visit 50-100 flowers on a single trip out of the hive.🌹
- Honey is the ONLY food that includes all the substances necessary to sustain life, including water.
Benefits:
- High-Quality Honey Is Rich in Antioxidants: Honey includes phenolic compounds including flavonoids, as well as other antioxidants.
- The Antioxidants in It Can Help Lower Blood Pressure: Honey consumption can result in minor reductions in blood pressure, a major risk factor for heart disease.
- According to some studies, honey decreases the risk of heart failure in diabetics. It does, however, increase blood sugar levels, so it is not recommended for people with diabetes.
- Honey Also Helps Improve Cholesterol: Honey consumption can result in minor reductions in blood pressure, a major risk factor for heart disease. Honey appears to have a cholesterol-lowering effect. It lowers total and "poor" LDL cholesterol while increasing "healthy" HDL cholesterol.
- Honey Can Lower Triglycerides: Triglycerides that are too high are linked to heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Honey has been shown in several studies to lower triglyceride levels, especially when used as a sugar substitute.
- Antioxidants in it have been linked to other heart-health benefits: Honey's antioxidants have been linked to heart health benefits such as improved blood flow to the heart and a lower risk of blood clot formation.
- Honey Promotes Burn and Wound Healing: Honey can be used to treat burns, wounds, and a variety of other skin disorders when applied to the skin. It's particularly good for diabetic foot ulcers.
- Honey Can Help Suppress Coughs in Children: Honey can be used as a normal and healthy cough suppressant in children over the age of one year. According to some reports, it is also more effective than cough medicine.
How to take:
When it comes to substituting honey for sugar, experimentation is important. Excessive browning and moisture can result from baking with honey.
Use 3/4 cup honey for every one cup sugar, decrease the liquid in the recipe by 2 teaspoons, and lower the oven temperature by 25 degrees Fahrenheit as a general rule.
- Use honey to sweeten your dressings or marinades.
- Stir honey into coffee or tea.
- Drizzle honey on top of toast or pancakes.
- Mix honey into yogurt, cereal, or oatmeal for a more natural sweetener.
- Spread raw honey over whole grain toast and top with peanut butter.
